Saturday, December 18th: The crew gathered at the Allen, Texas,
home of Jan and Allen Agee for our second annual Christmas party. We
enjoyed a fresh-baked ham, homemade desserts, cheeses, and other tasty
treats brought by various crew members. The it was time for the "Ferengi
Gift Exchange" and the swiping was fierce this year as so many sought
after items became available. Most coveted was a hot chocolate collection
with mug ultimately snagged by CO Robyn Winans. We thank Jan and Allen
for their hospitality and their cat for putting up with our jingle bell. |

 |
Sunday, December 12th: Our final monthly meeting of 2004 starts
was held at our regular meeting place, the
Half Price Books
location on east Northwest Highway in Dallas. CO Robyn was back at the
captain's chair and many crew members were present to greet another new
member. (It's a good thing the Lobo-class as such a high crew capacity!)
Planning for the Christmas Party (Saturday, the 18th, at Jan's house) was
finalized and an outline for the coming year was presented. |

Sunday, November 14th: Our monthly meeting was held at our
regular meeting place, the Half
Price Books location on east Northwest Highway in Dallas. This was a short
meeting as the captain and most of the crew were out of state on various tasks.
Elizabeth and Kris greeted a potential new member. |
 |
Sunday, November 7th: The crew hosted this month's Sector One movie
night Away Mission and we chose the Cinemark Legacy 24 in Plano, Texas, for
the event. This theater boasts a DLP all-digital projection system, perfect
for watching digital movies. Most of our crew plus Byron and Joy Flynt from
the USS Bethel came together to see
The Incredibles,
the CGI-animated superhero movie from Pixar, on opening weekend. |

Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 24th: The crew beamed down to
the Dallas Comic Con at the
Plano Centre in Plano, Texas.
The biggest show of the year in Dallas, we got to meet Star Trek: The
Next Generation stars Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner, Wil
Wheaton, and John deLancie and many others from movies, TV, and
comics such as Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy. Some of the crew served as
volunteers to help this event run more smoothly. Others, with help from our
pals on the IKV Melota, held our second annual Toys for Tots collection
drive. We overflowed three huge boxes for a total of about $2200 in toys. |

Sunday, October 10th: Our monthly meeting started on time and with
most of the crew but the captain was in Missouri on personal business.
The table in the Half Price Books
community room was extra-crowded thanks to a visit from our Klingon pals
aboard the IKV Melota. Certificates of appreciation and participation were
exchanged for everybody's work on the Gene Roddenberry birthday party. |
Volunteers were signed up to work the Toys For Tots table at the Dallas Comic
Con on the 23rd and 24th of this month. We even drafted a few Klingons to show
up in full outfits to remind people there is much honor in helping less fortunate
children have a happier holiday. Schedules will be e-mailed to individual
volunteers.
Many calendar items were discussed including (as expected) the cancellation
of Creation's November "Star Trek" show. We've scheduled the ship's holiday
party for Saturday, the 18th of December, and we're bringing back the very
popular Ferengi gift exchange. Meeting dates were also laid out for the
rest of the year but next up is Sector One Movie Night hosted by, um, us!
Sunday, November 7th, we're all beaming down to the Cinemark Legacy 24 in
Plano to watch The Incredibles. Everyone in the D/FW area is welcome
to join us for this family-safe movie away mission.

Sunday, September 12th: Our monthly meeting was held at our regular
meeting place, the Half Price Books
location on east Northwest Highway in Dallas. Robyn, Ed, and Kris met in the
community room to discuss plans for the 'open meeting" at FenCon on the 25th,
volunteering for Sci-Fi Expo in October, and running our second annual Toys
for Tots toy drive at that event. |

Thursday, August 19th: You say it's your birthday? Well August 19th
would have been Gene Roddenberry's birthday so inconjunction with our pals
at Half Price Books
and the Klingons onboard the IKV Melota,
we held a celebration of the life of Star Trek creator and Great Bird
of the Galaxy Gene Roddenberry at the Half Price Books
location on east Northwest Highway in Dallas. We partied in the
community room with fans in costume, Klingons in full battle gear, a display
of Star Trek memorabilia, and delicious cake. People shared their experiences,
demonstrated their gadgets, and then recruited for their clubs. We also took
a moment to recognize Richard Nash of Half Price Books as our first honorary
member. Thanks again for all you do, Richard! |

Sunday, August 15th:
Our busy and film-packed week continued with this month's Sector One movie
night. The crew of the USS Panther City played host to the ships of
the Metroplex as we watched Alien Versus Predator at the
UA Eastchase Market Stadium 9
located at I-30 and Eastchase Parkway in Fort Worth, Texas. Roybn and Ed
represented the USS Trinity River. They were joined by members from the
USS Bethel, USS Comanche, and our hosts on the USS Panther City. |
Reaction to the film was mildly positive in the face of terrible reviews.
When "not as bad as I expected" is the best thing anybody can say about a film, maybe you
should consider skipping this one. Still, we had fun, we had popcorn, and afterwards we had
Schlotzsky's. Yum. Keep an eye on the calendar for the next
Sector One movie night.

Saturday, August 14th: We gathered for an afternoon of movies and
munchies at the home of new USS Trinity River member Dan Stockelman.
Jan brought the nonpareils, Ed brought the microwave popcorn, and Robyn
brought the ice while Dan provided drinks, the big screen TV, and his copy
of the director's cut of The Fellowship of the Ring. Enjoy a handful

Thursday, August 12th: We attended a free screening of
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow at the invitation of our pal
Ben Stevens from
Sci-Fi Expo. The theater was
packed but we had choice seats thanks to Ben. Sky Captain is a
stunning mix of live action, CGI, 1930s super science, and giant robots.
Lots of giant robots. Crew consensus was "we loved it" with some making
plans to see it again opening day and others wanting the DVD right away.
Crew in attendance included Robyn, Ed, Greg, Dan, Liz (with David), and
our new friends Ariel and Terry. |
 |
 |
Sunday, August 8th: For the first time since May, our monthly meeting
was held at our regular meeting place, the Half Price Books
location on east Northwest Highway in Dallas. We meet in the community
room, next to the science fiction section of the store. Reports were made,
calendars were updated, photos were taken, and visitors were greeted. |
We planned a busy week starting with a movie screening on Thursday the 12th,
a movie day at Dan's on Saturday the 14th, a movie with our pals in Sector One on Sunday the 15th,
and a birthday celebration for Gene Roddenberry with the Half Price Books folks on the 19th. We
also confirmed the September and October meetings, discussed the movement of the Region Three
pool and darts tournament to October, and the toy show at the end of October. We'll be doing our
second annual Toys For Tots campaign at the toy show. We also welcomed guests Ariel and Terry
who recently moved to the area from L.A. Linda had a cadet emergency at home and Erik had a
transporter issue but Robyn, Liz, Jan, Ed, and Dan were in attendance.

Thursday, July 29th through Sunday, August 1st: CO Robyn Winans and
Communications Officer Ed Dravecky attended STARFLEET's
2004 International Conference
at the Birmingham Marriott in Birmingham, Alabama. With a theme of "Journey
to the land of Vulcan!" (which is also a famous statue, not just Mr. Spock's
homeworld), Ed and Robyn enjoyed many panels, games, and presentations.
They were among the dozen or so members representing Region Three at this
worldwide gathering of Star Trek fans. |

Sunday, July 11th: Special time and location!
Our monthly meeting was held at the Richardson Civic Center at
the conclusion of the Sci-Fi Expo.
Many USS Trinity River members volunteered to help the Expo run more
smoothly so a temporary move in time and space was called for. (And what
could be more Trekkish than moving through time and space?) |
We welcomed new member Dan Stockelman aboard the ship and discussed
upcoming events. The ships of Sector One will be hosting movie nights through the end
of the year and ours will be Pixar's "The Incredibles" in November. Also, we'll hosting
a birthday party for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry at the
Half Price Books
where we normally hold our meetings. Everybody is invited to attend and we'll have more
details on the home page and in the calendar
when we have them.
The meeting was kept short so we could celebrate the birthday of
XO Elizabeth Weber. We adjourned to the
Spaghetti Warehouse
in Plano for pasta and celebration. Special thanks to Ashley, our server, for
doing such an amazing job for our crazy crew.

Saturday, July 10th and Sunday, July 11th: The crew of the
USS Trinity River served as volunteers to help the
Sci-Fi Expo at the
Richardson Civic Center in Richardson, Texas, run more smoothly.
Star Trek guests included TNG's Marina Sirtis and
Voyager's Robert Picardo. They were generous enough to
pose with us for a group picture. In return, we made cash donations
to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
and the Best Friends Animals Sanctuary,
the designated charities of Robert Picardo and Marina Sirtis, respectively. |
 |
Other guests included LOTR's John Noble, Buffy/Angel's Julie Benz,
Buck Rogers' Erin Gray, Star Wars' Billy Dee Williams and Peter Mayhew,
The X-Files/Lone Gunmen's Dean Haglund, Tales from the Crypt's John Kassir,
Battlestar Galactica's Jack Stauffer, plus comic book artists and writers.
The dealers room had vendors from across the country with toys, books, comics, and more.
Crew members in attendance were Robyn Winans, Elizabeth Weber, Ed Dravecky, Jan Agee,
Greg Lane, Linda Patton, cadet Scott Patton, and new member Dan Stockelman. It was two
long days of hard work but it was a rewarding way to meet the stars and hang out with
our fellow fans. We'll be on the job again at the October show in Plano.
